Deputies say skull found near Skiatook is human

A man searching for scrap metal made the surprising find

Washington County deputies say a skull found north of Skiatook is human.

WCSO got a call from Skiatook police about 4:30 Tuesday after a man found the skull while hunting for scrap metal on private land.

The property sits near Highway 11, and the man had permission from the owner to search for scrap metal.

There are no pending reports of missing persons from that area.

Deputies have said they planned to search the area for additional remains.

The skull was largely intact, but reportedly showed signs of trauma, and the lower jaw was missing.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agents have joined the investigation.

It will be up to the Medical Examiner to try and determine how the person might have died, and their identity.
