Death row inmates complaining about bird droppings

Should they be forced to live in filth or do they deserve it?

Prisoners wrote about the nasty conditions in a survey issued by a state prison inspection committee.

They are asking for screens on the windows to keep the birds out of their cells in the Ohio prison. The report released on Monday by the Correctional Institution Inspection Committee shows many inmates like the fact that windows are open and let in fresh air, but they’re not fond of the flying guests making a mess.

The committee got 94 surveys from the nearly 140 inmates on death row at Chillicothe Correctional Institution south of Columbus. Also on their complaint list, the inmates hate having to be handcuffed when taken to the showers and the lack of hot water in cells.

A spokesperson for the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction promised a response later Monday.
