Criminal survives execution, will be treated, executed again

Yes, really

The man was hanged for being a drug smuggler and having a kilo of meth.

But he was real stubborn about it.

After 12 minutes in the noose doctors declared the 37 year old dead and hauled him to the morgue.

The Guardian reports doctors fully resuscitated the man and are now nursing him back to health so they can try again.

The next day workers at the morgue in Iran saw steam inside the body bag and realized he was, in fact, alive.

"We couldn't believe he was still alive when we went to collect his body," one relative said.

It won’t matter because the Iranian court says they sentenced the guy to death so technically his sentence still hasn’t been fulfilled.

So once the man named Alireza is feeling better, they’ll try again.

Amnesty International isn’t pleased with the plan.

"Carrying it out twice on man who somehow managed to survive 12 minutes of hanging, who was certified as dead and whose body was turned over to his family is simply ghastly. It betrays a basic lack of humanity that sadly underpins much of Iran's justice system,” they commented.

Iran has executed 508 people in 2013.
