Crews busy with grass fires on Friday

Several crews were busy on Friday putting out grass fires in Okfuskee County.

A semi truck got a flat tire and sparked for several miles, causing the fires just south of Weleetka.

Crews believe this is just the beginning.  An Emergency Management official says the conditions are ripe for further grass fires this season.

KRMG’s told no structures were damaged by the grass fires.  Crews were able to get the flames under control.

“We’re so dry that what little rain we get isn’t going to last long,” the official said.  “We’re just going to have to be very careful the rest of this winter.”

However, Saturday is expected to be windy and people are asked to be careful with outdoor burning in and around the Tulsa area. Also, be safe when discarding cigarettes.
