Cox employees gathered at the OU-Tulsa Schusterman Learning Center on Friday to celebrate the donation.
KIPP Tulsa College Preparatory School was presented with the Cox Charities IMPACT Grant - a check for $50,000 dollars. Cox’s Tiffani Bruton says the money comes solely from employee donations.
“The people who are in your home installing your cable or who you talk to on the phone – those are the people who fund the foundation.” Bruton said.
“It’s going to help us to be able to get additional resources around books and it’s going to provide for some technology.” McRae said.
Andrew McRae with KIPP Tulsa told KRMG the money will be used to make improvements in many areas.
McRae added it will also help pay for teacher training that will be focused on improving the school’s literacy efforts.
The benefits aren’t just immediate, though. The school will also use part of the funds to expand.
"Over the next 8 to 10 years we'll be able to grow from just one middle school serving 5th through 8th grades to a five-school network consisting of two middle schools, two elementary schools and a high school." McRae said.
