Coburn urges White House to cancel massive 100-city tour

Questioning how it can justify trips for multiple government officials to dozens upon dozens of cities, Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn is urging the White House to cancel its plans for what it's calling the "Connecting to your Community" tour.

Coburn says their plan is to send dozens of officials from different agencies to meet with municipal leaders in roughly 100 different cities.

One of the first trips is planned for Beaverton, Oregon.

But he already questions how the White House can justify the expense at a time when painful sequestration cuts are set to impact America's military families.

Coburn is asking the Office of Management and Budget to provide with information on exactly how much each trip is going to cost.

Coburn says officials could accomplish the same goals of the "Connecting to your Community" tour with conference calls instead of expensive trips, or else he says they could just wait for the same municipal officials to make trips to Washington D.C. and meet with federal officials there.
