City of Tulsa begins new project on Lewis Avenue

The hectic street should be open at I-44 before this project is finished

As Tulsa drivers anticipate the reopening of Lewis Avenue at I-44 after a nearly two year project, the city begins a different project a few miles up the road.

Luckily, the new project on Lewis between 17th and 21st Streets isn't even close to the magnitude of the I-44 project. The city says crews will be replacing a sewer line in that area.

The road isn't entirely closed, but the left lane in both directions will be closed for several weeks. The two outside lanes will be unaffected, unless you count the traffic congestion.

As for I-44 and Lewis, ODOT hasn’t settled on a specific date, but tells KRMG Lewis Ave. should be open in a matter of just a few weeks. ODOT says bad weather over the course of the project is to blame for the delays.

The work in this area is expected to take about 6 to 8 weeks.
