The City of Tulsa plans to replace a fountain that drunk drivers seemed to hit on a regular basis.
The fountain at Bartlett Square, at Fifth and Main Street downtown, has been damaged multiple times by intoxicated motorists.
Downtown Coordinating Council Manager Tom Baker tells KRMG the new design should solve that problem.
Baker says the new design is nine inches tall and well lit with LED lighting that makes it highly visible.
"Should a vehicle accidentally run over it, well it's not going to damage the vehicle or the fountain," he said.
The project will cost about $450-thousand dollars. $92,000 comes from insurance settlements with drivers who've damaged the fountain, and the remainder comes out of Vision 2025 funds, Baker said.
Construction will begin in January, after the holiday shopping season ends.
It should take about two months to complete, according to Baker.
