The licensed Childcare Association of Oklahoma is worried there won’t be enough childcare providers come the fall semester.
Board member, Cindy Alonso is the owner of Happy Campers academy in midtown Tulsa.
Alonso says Oklahoma has about 2,900 licensed childcare centers or home daycares, but about 800 haven’t been able to keep their doors open because of the coronavirus.
They are calling on the state government to distribute CARES Act money so providers can afford to stay open -- purchasing cleaning supplies, paying employees and assisting students with virtual school if needed.
Childcare providers are worried that with more parents returning to work there may not be enough childcare options for school-aged kids.
