Cardboard cop cuts crime capers

And he stores nicely behind a a set of drawers

He looks big, stern, and strong but he’s really just a light weight.

In fact, he’s made of cardboard.

The fake officer was put there in an effort to curb the on-going thefts and damage at the Alewife MBTA subway and bus station in Cambridge, Massachusetts and so far, it’s working.

The paper officer is also a huge money saver.

Deputy Chief Robert Lenehan told Fox News the fake cop, along with video cameras and locks have cut bike thefts by nearly 70%.

Lenehan estimates it would cost the city $200,000 a year if they had a flesh and blood officer watch the area full-time.

The cutout is a picture of a real cop, MBTA Officer David Silen.
