It’s an easy thing to take for granted.
You turn on a faucet, the water comes out, and you don’t give it a second thought.
But a city’s water supply is a huge and expensive undertaking.
Not to worry, they’re not actually shutting off the water.
That’s why cities around the country are calling today ‘Imagine a Day Without Water’.
Thomas Stalcup with the City of Tulsa says they just want people to stop and think about what it would be like if we DIDN’T have our water service and to be more aware of what it takes.
“Y’know the infrastructure and the work that goes into it, it’s really good to think about that and think about the investment that needs to happen to upkeep that,” Stalcup said.
He says he even he takes it for granted even though he works in the industry.
Tulsa has two main water sources: Oologah Lake and the Eucha and Spavinaw Lakes.
On an average day, Tulsa uses about 104-million gallons of water.
The city can treat up to 220-million gallons per day.
The city has two water treatment plants and four wastewater treatment plants.
