Broken Arrow gives update on Albany Street construction project

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The first phase of Broken Arrow’s Albany Street widening project is now 50 to 60 percent complete.

A single-span arch aluminum bridge has been placed over Lone Star Creek. Now, contractors are starting to backfill around the bridge.

The initial phase of the project will add 1,000 feet of asphalt to widen the two lane road to five lanes. The project will also include driveways, drainage culverts, a sidewalk, gutters and curbs in the area.

Phase I is expected to be completed before school starts on August 18th. This particular section of Albany Street includes access to Vanguard Academy, which is Broken Arrow’s new STEM academy.

The bridge installation will be completed in two weeks. After that, the second phase will begin. The road is currently closed to traffic, so drivers will have to take detours near 23rd Street or 37th Street.
