Broken Arrow art event cancelled, businesses upset

The Chalk it Up event was axed due to weather concerns

The Broken Arrow Arts and Humanities Council cancelled the art event that was supposed to happen last Friday night and Saturday.

Organizers were concerned that severe weather would move through and present safety concerns. Restaurants along the stretch of Main Street where the event was to be held were disappointed to see it cancelled.

“We were really looking forward to it and it [Saturday] actually turned out to be a really nice day.” Bruhouse Grill server Andy Cagle said.

“We’re a partner and had our resources ready. And the sales tax dollars generated by having hundreds of visitors in the city would’ve been great.” Broken Arrow Communications Director Krista Flasch said.

The City of Broken Arrow tells KRMG it was also disappointed to see the event cancelled, but that it supported the decision to keep people safe.

The Broken Arrow Arts and Humanities Council will have to decide whether or not to reschedule the event.
