Bolivia on verge of lowering child labor age to 10

Sponsors: Many poor families have no other choice

While most of the world is trying to diminish child labor, Bolivia is on the verge of becoming the first nation to legalize it from age 10.

Bolivia's Congress has approved the proposal, which awaits President Evo Morales' signature.

The bill's sponsors say lowering the minimum work age from 14 acknowledges the reality that many poor families have no other choice than for their kids to work.

They say the bill offers working children safeguards.
