The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality issued a water use advisory for part of Wagoner County.
This advisory was issued due to the possible presence of E. coli in the water supply. County officials tell KRMG the area is occupied by several people living near Fort Gibson Lake.
Officials advised Wagoner County Rural Water District 9 customers to use water that has been brought to a full, rolling boil for at least one minute. As alternative, residents could use bottled water or water from another clean source for consumption, use in food preparation, dishwashing and brushing teeth.
Federal law requires that consumers be notified when a public water supply exceeds certain maximum contaminant levels and might be harmful to the health of consumers.
No word on how long the boil advisory will be in effect, but officials say residents will be notified when the water is considered safe.
