Bill Mitchell, icon in Tulsa TV, passes away from lengthy illness

A long-time Tulsa television reporter has passed away from a lengthy illness.

Former KTUL reporter Bill Mitchell was 69 years old.

According to KTUL, Mitchell worked at Channel 8 for 10 years starting in 1972. During that time he served as a reporter, writer, producer and anchor.

Mitchell came back to Tulsa in 1994 and was the Senior News Reporter at KTUL until he retired in December 2012.

From 1982 until 1994, Mitchell worked at KARK in Little Rock then KOCO in Oklahoma City.

KTUL reports that Mitchell served our country from 1962 to 1965 in the U.S. Army. He served in the Santa Domingo uprising, received a combat infantry badge, and went on to receive an honorable discharge.

General Manager Pat Baldwin says, “We are mourning the loss of a great reporter and friend today. Bill loved the station and our viewers. He was a hard worker and taught us all how to find news stories. He will always be our ‘buddy’ and a part of the Channel 8 family.”

Mitchell is survived by his wife, Jill, and his daughter, Cynthia.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
