America's happiest state....will shock you!

Sun and surf are not on top

Bitter winds, piles of snow, and drilling for oil makes America’s new happy place.

North Dakota has bumped off Hawaii as the happiest state in the U.S.

The report comes from LiveScience who says the home of the hula dropped all the way to number eight on the list.

The index considers access to the basics like food and water as well as work environments, health, and access to, and quality of medical care.

It all comes from the Gallup Organization’s "Well-Being Index," for 2013.

North Dakota made it as high as #2 in 2012 but this is the first time the state has been at the top.
