ACLU sues to remove 10 Commandments monument from Capitol

The American Civil Liberties Union has filed suit to force the removal of a monument to the 10 Commandments built on the grounds of the state capitol.

The family of Rep. Mike Ritze (R) paid $10,000 to erect the monument on the north side of the capitol complex last year.

It received criticism from the ACLU at the time, and also from what was considered by many a hastily-erected monument with at least two spelling errors.

In a statement, the ACLU's Oklahoma Executive Director, Ryan Kiesel, says the organization finds the monument divisive.

The rose-stone block reads “Sabbeth” instead of “Sabbath" and misspelled the word "maidservant" as "maidseruent."

KRMG is attempting to contact Rep. Ritze for comment.
