Kentucky Derby trip cut short when men find decomposing body in rented RV

Bad smell led to the discovery

What was supposed to be a trip to the Kentucky Derby, turned into a murder investigation.

The body of Kevin Casserly was found in an RV rented by a group of friends headed for the race when the guys noticed a foul smell.

At a stop, they began checking the RV and found Casserly’s badly decomposing body in an exterior storage area.

Casserly had been trying to right his life after problems with meth addiction.

Casserly’s family confirms he has been missing since November when his mother went to check on him the day after he told her he wasn’t feeling well. She found his apartment door open but his cell phone, wallet and cash were still inside.

The men in the RV told The Pioneer Press they rented the RV from "a friend of a friend of a friend."
