TULSA, Okla. — Winter does not officially begin for over a month, but wintry weather can occur in Green Country much earlier.
Only about one in 10 seasons have snow by halfway through November, but the month as a whole averages 0.8 inches in a given year. As we move into the second half of November, snowfall occurrences become much more common.
Nearly one in every four Novembers have measurable snowfall.
More recently, measurable snowfall occurred in the second week of November in both 2018 and 2019.
Measurable snow (0.1 inch or greater) has happened as early as Oct. 30 in Tulsa, which occurred in 1993. Snowflakes have fallen over the city even earlier. In 2000, snowflakes fell in Tulsa on Oct. 7.
The average date of the first measurable snowfall in Green Country is Dec. 18, but that can vary greatly season-to-season depending on a number of factors.
