Father-to-be arrested for smoking pot in maternity ward

No, he didn't offer the doctor a hit

Dude, did you see my baby?

We can only imagine the conversation went something like that before police arrested 28-year-old David Bastin.

A nurse in the labor and delivery unit of the Martin Medical Center in Stuart, Florida called police after she got a whiff of what she thought was marijuana.

Police reports obtained by TC Palm say the officer confronted the man and said to "make this simple and hand me the cannabis."

The odor was coming from the room Bastin’s girlfriend had been placed in.

The report says Bastin obliged and gave the officer a vaporizer with “a green leafy substance that I know from my training and experience to be raw cannabis.”

Bastin was hit with charges of possession of cannabis under 20 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.

That got the fellow jail time and a bond of $1,500. But you have to think he was REALLY relaxed during his girlfriend's labor.

No word on whether the baby was a boy, or a girl.
