Craig County teen left seriously injured after fighting off armed attacker

Investigators say the young man jumped a barbed-wire fence and hid in the grass until help arrived

VINITA, Okla. — The Craig County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a teenager was attacked near Vinita High School this week.

Investigators said the young man fought off the attacker but was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

It happened just before 10 p.m. Tuesday night.

They said the teenager fought off the attacker, climbed a barbed-wire fence, ran into a field, and hid in the tall grass until help arrived.

The sheriff’s office says the teenager was attacked near the high school at 4390 Road and 250 Road.

Investigators say, right now, they have very little to go on and there’s not enough information to point to a motive or a suspect.

They’re looking at surveillance video from churches and schools nearby but say there’s very little video near where the attack happened.

If you have any information about the attack you’re asked to call (918) 256-6466.
