BIXBY, Okla. — Students in Bixby start the new school year Tuesday.
Bixby Public Schools Superintendent Rob Miller is beginning his fifth school year serving Bixby students. He said last year the district’s enrollment grew by 12 percent, and this year, about another 6 percent.
A key part of keeping up with the growth is construction on a new high school building that’s part of a $110-million bond package voters passed this year.
“We’re enormously excited about the new high school building About 200 thousand square feet, $70-million building on the existing high school campus. It will be state-of-the-art,” said Miller.
Miller said the current campus dates back to the 1960s.

The building is expected to take two years to complete. During that time, drivers around campus will have to adjust to new parking and drop-off locations.
“The next two years will be a challenge ... There’s gonna be some parking issues, there’s gonna be some student drop-off issues,” said Miller. “We just ask our parents and students to be patient as we work through those details. We’ll make it the best that we can.“
The main entrance used for drop off is no longer accessible, but yellow signs around campus show drivers where to go.
