BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Police Chief Tracy Roles and Bartlesville Police Department staff will once again offer free rides home to people who may have too many New Year’s toasts.

Starting tonight at 10 p.m. through 2 a.m. New Year’s Day, anyone who might have enjoyed the holiday festivities a little too much can get a ride.

Chief Tracy Roles says the need has tripled over the years. He says at first people thought it was a trick to take people to jail, but he says this is about a needed service in his community.

Chief Roles is encouraging other police departments to do the same. He says this is not just about safety but about building a trust with his community.

“When people call me for a ride, I know they’re being responsible,” Roles said.

If you need a ride simply call dispatch at 918.338.4001, tell the dispatcher you want to take the chief up on his offer and give them your location. Chief Roles or another officer will take you safely home within Bartlesville City limits. There is no cost for this service.
