The Cult Classic Movie “Heavy Metal” Turns 40!

The adult sci-fi fantasy classic, “Heavy Metal”, was released August 7, 1981. It’s an anthology of science fiction and fantasy stories taken from “Heavy Metal” magazine. The movie is a Canadian and American production featuring the voice work of many famous SCTV members like Harold Ramis, John Candy, Eugene Levy, and Joe Flaherty to name a few. It was produced in part by Ivan Reitman (”Stripes”, “Animal House”, “Ghostbusters”). The film drew mixed reviews when it was released 40 years ago, but has achieved cult status. The soundtrack features songs from Sammy Hagar, Blue Oyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Nazareth, Journey, Black Sabbath, and more.
