Owner of dog shot by police speaks out

Donica McIntosh said she was woken up by a friend, after police officers knocked on her door saying they shot her dog, Titus.

The police asked her to get her ID, but after waking up her fiancé she returned to them without it.

“I’m like, I’m sorry I totally forgot it,” McIntosh said. “And he was like, ‘Come out here, you’re under arrest for obstruction'.”

McIntosh was arrested on three counts of harboring a vicious animal, three counts of dog-at-large and one count of obstruction. Her fiancé Ryan Mathis was arrested on three counts of harboring a vicious animal, one count of obstruction and one count of public intoxication; though McIntosh said he had just woken up.

A friend that spent the night at their house said the dog never charged the officer.

“She said Titus didn’t move,” McIntosh said. “He wasn’t moving. He was sitting there.”

McIntosh said Titus was going to be a show dog, but she didn’t know if that would be possible anymore.

Titus underwent two surgeries Monday. A veterinarian removed six molars from the right side of his mouth as well as shrapnel from the shooting.

McIntosh said all three of her dogs are lap dogs, and believes they were discriminated against due to their pit bull breed.

“I don’t have any children. Those are like my kids,” McIntosh said. “He’s one of the ones where you open the door and he’s right there waiting for you, for his hugs and kisses.”

McIntosh believes her dogs were able to escape after PSO left their gate unlocked after a recent visit. Their PSO account has since been notated to inform the family about upcoming visits.

TPD showed up after receiving a call from a resident saying the dogs were trying to get into their yard.
