The inventor of the Pink Flamingo yard ornament has died

Donald Featherstone was a trained sculptor and winner of an lg Nobel Prize in art. However, he’ll likely go down in history as the man to blame, or credit with the plastic decoration that adorned nearly every US lawn in the 1960s.

The iconic piece is one of almost 800 designs Featherstone crafted during his 43 years working for Union Products in Leominster, Massachusetts. It was certainly his most popular.

The Austin American-Statesman writes Featherstone's wife Nancy, "told The Associated Press on Tuesday that her husband died Monday at an elder care facility in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, after a long battle with Lewy body dementia.

It’s worth noting the Ig Nobel Prize is a take-off of the genuine Nobel Prizes. The lg is given to individuals those who develop “unusual or trivial achievements in scientific research.”
