Claremore firefighter dies while rescuing flood victims

A tragedy out of Claremore late Saturday night.

We're told firefighters responded to a flood-related call in the area of Archer and State Highway 20 around 11:30 p.m.

Police say an apartment complex was having flood issues and the firefighters attempted to help.  During this time, one of the firefighters got swept away by the flood water.

A second firefighter attempted to help him, but fell down in the process.  The second firefighter was rescued before being swept away by the water as well.

Police confirm the firefighter who was swept away was found dead.  He was located around two hours later in a storm drain.

It's believed the firefighter drowned but the medical examiner's office will give the official cause of death.

The name of the deceased firefighter hasn't been released.
