Oologah girl died from enlarged heart

Six-year-old Jenny Yang's official cause of death is sudden cardiac arrest with cardiomegaly and etiology underdetermined, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner announced Monday.

"That is an abnormal enlargement of the heart," Chief Administrative Officer at OCME in Oklahoma Amy Elliot said. "And the etiology of it is undetermined, meaning they don't know the cause of the condition. And we have ruled her cause of death as a natural."

Yang was taken to the hospital after leaving school with a fever on January 5. She died at the hospital later that day.

Her death led to many parents keeping their children home from school amid fears that she had contracted an illness.

Oologah-Talala Public Schools Superintendent Max Tanner closed the school for days to complete a "precautionary cleaning" of the classrooms and buses.

The Oklahoma State Department said Yang did not die from an infectious disease and there was never a public health risk.
