Man crashes through Tulsa airport gates

The man crashed through a gate on the southwest side of the Tulsa International Airport around noon Wednesday. He then drove northwest and crashed through another gate to exit the airport.

Airport operations responded and tracked him down to the public roads at the northwest corner of the airport.

But the suspect wasn't done. He then entered the airport again by crashing through a third gate near the air traffic control tower.

The man drove out onto the runway before being taken into custody by airport police.

“Once he was apprehended, it appeared that he was intoxicated,” Tulsa International Airport spokesperson Alexis Higgins said. "However, operations and law enforcement staff are doing a full investigation. I have not been given the specific reason or motivation that prompted his actions."

Higgins said the only damage resulting from this incident is to the three gates the suspect crashed through.

"And there were no injuries, so that’s the good news," Higgins said. “We’re able to limit activity on the airfield if we need to for situations like this.”

No description of the suspect or his vehicle is available at this time.
