Undocumented immigrants reluctant to report crimes in Tulsa

Tues, March 28, 2017 — Earlier this year, President Donald Trump sent out an order giving local police jurisdictions more control over the deportation of undocumented immigrants.

Since that time, Tulsa police say immigrants in the area have been less likely to report crimes.  TPD tells us this can't happen, if we want to keep our city safe.

“We are not going to actually go out and look for people we believe are illegal immigrants,” TPD said.

Police add if an illegal immigrant does get arrested, it will be up to ICE, whether or not they get deported.

For reference, there are believed to be around 85,000 illegal immigrants in Oklahoma. Nationwide, the number jumps to around 11 million.
