Texting driver impaled by guardrail

Christina Jahnz was in a rush to drop off her daughter’s saxophone at school, which had been left at home.

Jahnz says she was running late for a business meeting, so she used the voice-to-text feature to send a message, but when she looked down to proofread it, she hit a pole.

“The next thing I knew, I was looking up, there was white powder from the air bags deployed." Jahnz said.

The guardrail pole went through the front of her truck, through her thigh, out her buttocks and through the seat. Firefighters in the Colorado town had to cut both ends of the pole to free her from the truck.

Jahnz spent four days in the hospital and is now getting around with the help of a walker. Doctors say she should make a full recovery, but she wants everyone to hear her message.

"It's devastating knowing that I could have prevented it to begin with. I just hope my story helps to save the lives of others. Don't text and drive," Jahnz said.
