Senator seeks to let younger recruits into OHP

Oklahoma Senator Josh Brecheen is pushing a bill that would lower the age at which people can become a state trooper.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol requested the legislation that takes the age down from 23 to 21. The bill would also reduce the education requirements to become a trooper.

The bill passed the Senate on Tuesday and now heads to the House for consideration.

Senator Brecheen says he sponsored the bill at the request of the Department of Public Safety, which governs OHP, requested the change because of the recent drop in recruits for the highway patrol.
