Pit bull attacks boy, dog gets life sentence

A dog accused of attacking a child will spend time in a shelter.

A judge in Phoenix has ruled that a pit bull that mauled a 4-year-old boy earlier this year will spend the rest of its life in an animal shelter.

The judge had declared the dog vicious but declined to have it euthanized after protesting animal-rights advocates blamed the animal's owner and the child's baby-sitter.

The toddler faces months, if not years of reconstructive surgery on his face.
