Oklahoma solider killed in Afghanistan

Colleen Whipple of Edmond confirmed the news on her Facebook page saying “Rex Schad, one of the two soldiers killed in Wardak was my son.”

Schad had been in Afghanistan since November on his second tour of duty.

Two American soldiers were killed Monday when a police officer sprayed U.S. and Afghan forces with bullets at a headquarters in the Wardak province.

The Army has not yet released the names of the two men but Whipple said her son was one of them.

The attacker was killed in the gun battle as well.

Whipple told Newsok.com she knew her son had been killed when she saw men sitting in a van outside her house Monday.

“It's a shame,” Colleen Whipple said. “But it's what he wanted to do.”

Schad was a 2005 Edmond Memorial High School graduate.

KRMG will update this story as more information becomes available.
