Oklahoma has made some big improvements during the past few years with our disaster readiness, but a new survey from the American College of Emergency Physicians has given the state a failing grade in the category of Access to Emergency Care.
And it's not hard to see why.
The group says the state has a shortage of emergency doctors, specialists, primary care providers, mental health providers and nurses.
But they say Oklahoma is taking steps to correct it.
A new emergency medicine residency program in Oklahoma has graduated three classes.
And just as important, 94-percent of the doctors are staying here in Oklahoma to practice after graduation.
Also, a second emergency medicine residency program is set to open in Oklahoma next year.
