News conference to be held Thursday regarding Baby Veronica case

The next legal steps in the case of an Oklahoma girl adopted by a South Carolina couple are to be discussed at a news conference by the girl's biological father and Cherokee Nation officials.

Dusten Brown and the Cherokee Nation's assistant attorney general are to hold a news conference Thursday in Tulsa at 10 a.m.

Brown has been in a legal battle with Matt and Melanie Capobianco of South Carolina over custody of Brown's biological daughter — Veronica.

Brown last month turned the girl over to the Capobiancos after the Oklahoma Supreme Court lifted an order keeping her in Oklahoma.

Brown is a member of the Cherokee Nation and argued that federal law favors his keeping custody.

The U.S. Supreme Court has said the Indian Child Welfare Act does not apply to the case.
