Man survives 60 hours underwater

The very fortunate man is Harrison Okene.

He was the cook on a tugboat that was capsized from huge ocean swells near Nigeria.

Twenty-nine-year-old Okene was trapped in a small bathroom on the boat, and that’s where he found a pocket of air to keep his head above the water.

He saw all of his shipmates get washed away.

Ten of those men died, and one is still missing.

He found something to hammer the side of the vessel with to alert rescue divers that he was alive.

Luckily, a diver did hear him banging on the ship and was able to pull him out.

The saltwater ate away at his skin and stripped all of the skin off of his tongue.

He had no food or water for the entire time, so he was quite famished when he was rescued.

He spent another 60 hours in a decompression chamber to regulate his body pressure, as he would’ve died had they immediately pulled him up.

Okene says he probably won’t be returning to the sea anytime soon.
