Lightning strike starts gas meter fire in Oologah

Four square blocks are evacuated in Oologah after a lightning strike hits a power line, causing it to fall on a gas meter and start a fire.

Rogers County fire officials tell us that three gas lines caught on fire as far as half a mile away from the original fire Tuesday about 6 p.m.

Oklahoma Natural Gas turned off the gas and evacuated the area, then took gas level readings.

Residents were allowed to return home about 10 p.m.

No injuries were reported.

Evacuations are underway right now after lightning hits a natural gas line in Oologah.

Officials say homes in a 4-block area are in danger.

KRMG is told that fire coming from that gas line near Highway 88 and Boundary Road.
