Joplin Army engineer helps capture wedding thief

A dream wedding ends unexpectedly for a Joplin couple.

Someone tried to swipe the wedding gifts.

But the groom, an Army combat engineer, took off after the guy.

Jared Lightle ran after the crook yelling "Stop! Thief! Stop."

Joplin, Missouri, police officers were investigating a nearby accident and caught the suspect.

Lightle and wife Stephanie had a courthouse wedding before he deployed to Afghanistan a year ago.

They planned a traditional ceremony and reception for when he returned.

The hero groom tells The Joplin Globe they now have a unique wedding story to share for the rest of their lives.
