Aerosol cans cleaned up after semi explosion in Big Cabin

BIG CABIN, Okla. — Several fire crews responded after an explosion was reported at a travel stop near Big Cabin Friday morning.

The fire could be seen for miles near I-44 at the Big Cabin exit.

The semi, which pulled into the truck stop after having brake issues, was hauling aerosol deodorant cans, fire crews on scene said.

The Big Cabin Fire Chief said it was like a war zone, with cans flying everywhere, even hitting the fire truck as it drove up.

““When it looks like roman candles going off and you’re walking through everything, it looks like a warzone. Especially at 5 in the morning,” Chief Kevin Oakley said.

Oakley said the truck pulled over because of brake problems, then the tires caught fire, sparking the 27,000 pounds of women’s deodorant he was hauling.

Big Cabin Fire called in Sonner Services to help clean the thousands of cans scattered across the parking lot. It took them until 5 p.m. Friday to clean up, getting all the cans recycled. The repair shop, which was also damaged in the fire is expected to reopen Saturday.
