Courthouse shooter sentenced to 23 years in prison

Dennehy opened fire in the crowded plaza outside the Tulsa County Courthouse in March of 2012.

One bystander was shot, but survived his injuries. Tulsa County Sheriff’s Deputy David Fortenberry was also shot and survived.

Dennehy’s official sentence is 23 years, 10 days in prison. He will also have to pay a fine of $3,250. Dennehy will get credit for time served.

During the trial, the defense asked for a psych evaluation to determine if Dennehy was competent to stand trial. He was found competent.

Dennehy’s family claims he is a paranoid schizophrenic and feel that he should be treated in a hospital.
