Church group donates $500k to Moore schools

The Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma made the half a million dollar donation to Moore Public Schools to build a 1,600-person storm shelter.

Convention officials announced the generous gift Wednesday and said that it will be designated to build the shelter at Central Elementary School and Central Junior High School.

Members of the group have aided Moore as it rebuilds from the massive tornado that hit the town last May, killing 24 people and destroying more than 1,000 homes.

Moore Public Schools Superintendent Robert Romines says the shelter means "peace of mind" and safety to many area families.
