Broken Arrow residents shocked by 'amber' alert for dog

(Broken Arrow, OK) - If you got the Amber Alert that was issued for a missing Yorkie in Broken Arrow Monday night, your reaction was probably much like Carol Wornell's.

"It was crazy.  My thing was what are we doing Amber Alerts for dogs for?" she said.

Her initial assumption was that the call had come from the city of Broken Arrow.

But a quick check by KRMG News with the Broken Arrow Police Department revealed the alert had not originated with them.

Then, we did a Google search and turned up a private group's website called, you guessed it, PetAmberAlert.com.

Once the alerts were filtered to include only those in Oklahoma, it showed an alert had been issued Monday for a missing Yorkie named "Pebbles" in Carol's neighborhood.

For a fee, PetAmberAlert.com says it will send out hundreds, even thousands of "robo-calls" to people in the area where the pet was lost, as well as tweets and faxes to local shelters and veterinarian offices.

We talked to Karyn Tarqwyn, a private investigator who is a consultant for PetAmberAlert.com.  She said it's great site that has reunited many people with pets which they regard as family members
