America's dirtiest beach is......

Avalon harbor on Catalina Island. Catalina is 26 miles off the shore of Long Beach, California and is a well-known and popular summer vacation spot.
The rankings are based on bacteria in the water that could lead to various kinds of health issues.
Things like dysentery, stomach flu, and hepatitis are among the maladies common from the kinds of muck being found.
Officials believe the main culprits are runoff from treatment plants and old sewer lines.
The Natural Resources Defense Council calls the problem “urban slobber flowing untreated into our waterways."
Yuck.
The council also calls on the EPA to rework and enforce its national storm water requirements.
Other beaches on the yucky list are California's Orange Doheny State Beach, New Jersey's Ocean Beachwood Beach, and Indiana's Lake Jeorse Park Beach.
Don’t lose hope, there are still come very clean places to go on vacation. Delaware's Dewey Beach, Alabama's Gulf Shores Public Beach, and California's San Clemente State Beach all score at the top of the healthy and safe list.
