5th graders will stand trial for murder plot

The boys, age 10 and 11 were arrested on February 7th after a classmate saw that one of them had a knife.

After the boys were searched a .45 caliber pistol and ammunition was found in their backpacks as well. There was also a handwritten plan on how to kill a girl in their class.

One of the boys was going to kill the girl with the knife while the other used the pistol to keep anyone else from interfering.

Both have pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit murder, witness tampering, and juvenile possession of a firearm.

A judge in Washington state said the boys are competent to stand trial and understood the nature and consequences of their actions.

Both the state and defense psychiatrists say the boys are a danger to their community.

The boys are still in custody with a bond of $100,000 each.
