TULSA, Okla. — One man has been arrested after admitting to taking items from a homeless outreach trailer.

On Valentine’s Day, Tulsa Police responded to an abandoned trailer near Newton and Harvard. TPD contacted the owner who said the trailer is a mobile kitchen full of supply to help feed the homeless.

The trailer was missing all of the supplies, including the grill ice chests, and propane tanks.

Security video showed a red Chevrolet Colorado towing the trailer through the parking lot. Officers tracked down the owner of the truck and found that a friend of the owner had borrowed the truck. The police identified as 53-year-old John Smith.

Police went to Smith’s home where he immediately admitted to taking the trailer as well as being in possession of a stolen U-Haul trailer officers found in his backyard, methamphetamine which officers found in his car, and of a firearm while being a convicted felon.

Officers also found that Smith is a convicted sex offender who had failed to register. Smith was arrested and booked into the Tulsa County jail.

Due to his tribal citizenship, his case falls under McGirt and will be turned over to the FBI and tribal authorities for further investigation.

The stolen supplies were returned to the trailer owner.
