After several weeks of student-led protests, it was East Central and Charles Page High School’s turn on Friday to protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Trump administration.
Students from East Central High School and Charles Page High School both held separate walk-outs to protest ICE and President Trump. East Central’s protest was held on their football field and lasted around 20 minutes with around 30 students holding signs. There weren’t any vulgar chants or signs with profanity, unlike protests at Union, Jenks, and Nathan Hale.
However, students at Charles Page in Sand Springs had a different experience. Sand Springs Police Captain Todd Enzbrenner said around 70 students started the protest and left campus, marching down McKinnley Avenue, holding signs and chanting. After two-and-a-half hours of protesting, the number dwindled to around 30.
“They’ve got their signs up, and they’re shouting their anti-ICE, anti-Trump slogans. For the most part, they’re behaving,” Enzbrenner said during the protest.
The students also had some counter-protestors to deal with it.
“There are probably half-a-dozen counter protestors across the street, and they’re shouting back and fourth at each other. They’re still standing there, but everybody’s pretty calm,” Enzbrenner said.
