HOMINY, Okla. — An Osage County Jury found a man guilty of first degree rape on Tuesday.

The Hominy Police Department said the jury found Gideon Goodeagle guilty of first degree rape and recommended a sentence of life in prison.

The case began with a report to Hominy Police, who then conducted an extensive investigation, executing multiple search warrants and gathering evidence that a sexual assault occurred.

Goodeagle fled the state during the initial stages of the investigation.

Hominy Police obtained a warrant to track Goodeagle’s phone, leading to his arrest at a hotel in Springfield, Missouri, by the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Goodeagle was returned to Oklahoma and booked into the Osage County Jail. He later posted a $75,000 bond and was released.

Following the jury’s guilty verdict on Tuesday, Goodeagle was taken back into custody.

Hominy Police thanked the U.S. Marshals Service, Missouri Highway Patrol, Osage Nation Police Department and the Osage County District’s Attorney’s Office for their assistance in the case.

The conviction reflects the strength of collaboration among agencies committed to protecting the community and holding offenders accountable, Hominy Police said.

Formal sentencing will take place next month.

Hominy Police said the department is grateful for the professionalism of all involved and that the victim has received justice.
