TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa Community College (TCC) hosted a Student Help Hub Resource Fair on Tuesday.
“We have our Health Hub Resource Fair today,” shared Douglas Allen, the Student Resource Coach for the college’s Student Help Hub. “We’re connecting students with resources here on campus as well as outside of campus, so we have our community partners here, we have our campus partners here, all to give students the resources that they need. We’ve done the leg work for the students. We want students to be connected with their resources. We feel that students need basic needs in order to be successful along their academic journey, so that’s the reason why we have our resource fair today.”
Allen outlined some of the resources students could find at the fair.
“We have housing here. We have Tulsa Higher Education Consortium that’s here today. They’re going to provide housing benefits for students, information for students. We also have TRIO programs here. We also have Wellness here, accessibility.”
The resource fair even gives students access to some resources they might not be expecting.
“We also have people here than can give information about taxes. We understand that it’s tax season and so we have Tulsa Responds here to give more information about how to do their taxes and free tax assistance. We also have, of course, transportation. We have an Uber rideshare as well. We are part of what we call Campus Connect. That’s a part of the Help Hub and we’re connecting students with Uber services to go from campus to campus.”
Allen said he hopes the resource fair gives students access to some of the tools they need to help them make it to graduation.
“We’re excited to help students. We believe that students are running a race and at the end of every race is the finish line. Sometimes along the way, they’re going to hit barriers. They’re going to hit hurdles and we want students to jump over that hurdle and actually get to their finish line and to graduate. If there’s any way that we can remove those barriers, we want to be able to do that so they can run their race successfully and get to their finish line.”
TCC student Amauria Kirby encourages students in need of resources to not be afraid to see what TCC has to offer them.
“You get access to different resources here, so it’s very fun and interactive to be a part of, as well as leave with a lot of information…They’re here to welcome you with open arms. Don’t be afraid or embarrassed of what may happen. Just come here. They’re here to help you.”
